Product Review :: Moonsand
In theory this stuff sounds great, it never dries up, its mold able comes in many different colours. In reality, my kids love it, but I hate it. It is messy to the nth degree. The kids put it into the molds, but it crumbles and falls apart when they try to take it out. The result is a colourful, sandy mess. As a result I try to let the kids play with it outside instead.
**Please note I am a bit neurotic when it comes to having sand in my house. I HATE the feeling of sand on my floor. ICK. I make the kids take their shoes off outside if we’ve been at the park.**
Product Review: Meet the sight words 1
I purchased this DVD for my son’s birthday and I am very impressed. The animation is simplistic and cheesy, but very colourful. My son loves it and he is learning. He is now starting to recognize a few sight words. He asks for the DVD constantly and even my almost 8 year old enjoys the DVD! I love the flashcard option which repeats the concept. I will be ordering volumes 2 and 3 for him for Christmas. For more information visit their website.
Covergirl Outlast Lipstain
I purchased this product after seeing the commercial. I normally don’t fall for advertisements, but I must admit this product intrigued me. I love the look of lipstick but really hate how it feels. The ad promised a featherlight, long wearing product, and the lip stain truly delivers! The product itself looks like a marker, it goes on a little wet but is absorbed really quickly. It has a pleasant smell and no taste (I know its odd, but I am put off by the smell of many lipsticks). Once it is dry it preforms as promised, it does not smudge or smear and it lasts a really long time. It even stayed on through a meal and didn’t come off when I kissed my kids! No real cons that I can think of. I’m not too sure how long it will last, but I am loving it! I’m planning on purchasing a few different shades!

Floral Bouquet
Paper, paper, paper!
What you need: Large box filled with many different kinds of paper. ie: magazine pages, tissue paper, newsprint, junk mail, wrapping paper, cardstock, writing paper.
Be prepared for a mess. Open the box and let your toddler explore. Together you can rip the paper, crumple and throw it, spread pages apart and carefully walk on them, make a hat, play peekaboo. Basically let your imagination run wild, being sure to take your cues from your child.
Butterfly Garden
What you Need: Garden that can be viewd from a window, flowers that attract butterflies: zinnies, marigolds, asters, hollyhocks, or purple, orange or yellow flowers.
Butterflies really like purple, orange and yellow flowers with short petals or flat tops for ease landings. Plant the seeds or plants close together. Sit back and ejoy watching the butterlies frolicking in the habitat you created for them.
You can have an older child reasearch what types of flowers you should plant to attract butterflies.
Laundry Day!
What you Need: Plastic tubs or sink, detergent, small pieces of laundry (ie socks, dishtowels child’s underwear)
Most kids love playing in the water, and emulating their parents. This activity incorporates both! Work with your child, either at the sink, or outside at a table to mix a basin of warm soapy water. Show your child how to gently scrub the clothes and wring them out, transfer them to the rinse water and repeat. Hang to dry.
Magic Jello!
What you Need: 1 box lemon jello, red or blue food colouring.
Freeze water that has been coloured with food colouring. Add the coloured cubes to the jello while preparing it, following the “quick set” method. Red cubes will make the jello orange and blue cubes will make the jello green. Talk to your toddler about what is happening while you watch the colour “magically” change.
Try dividing the jello into 3 bowls so you can leave 1 dish yellow, turn 1 orange and 1 green. Layer them into dishes for a “rainbow” treat!
